So we here at Surge have made an incredible investment into our employees, morale and overall culture.  Yep, you guessed it.  We bought a freakin’ Ping Pong Table!

Ping Pong Table

Although we really wanted to invest money in ping pong jerseys, entrance music, pyrotechnics and, most importantly, a championship belt we didn’t really have the time.  We needed to start competing immediately.  So far there have been 13 broken fingers, 8 lost teeth, 2 voodoo spells cast and 1 restraining order.  Not really any of that, but we sure have burned a few calories!

Here is how the ladder looks today!

Never has there been a greater day in equine sports history.  The long shot, Officer Doom, pulled beyond the pack, and secured a victory for jockey and trainer Jered Campbell!

Jered_OfficerDoom_roses

…little did anyone know that Officer Doom was, in fact, a flippin’ Pegasus (see also:  a horse with wings), and halfway through the race it spread it’s wings and flew.  Cheap?  Yeah, a little.  But there’s no rule against flying horses winning the Surge Derby (honestly, we never knew we’d need a clause discussing such an incident).

So, quite literally, Officer Doom flew over the contenders, with Slim Jim Dandy coming in at a close second (all of the extra protein from his sponsor helped out quite a bit).  Finishing up third came Trailer Swift, for Swift, the only filly on the track, wanted to meet Officer Doom and then write a massively-popular love song about their misadventures together.

Bonefirez, the favorite to win, struggled to come in fourth, for in the last furlong her hair became entangled and fell in front of her face, causing temporary track-blindness. Then finished Offtothegluefactory, who, though he fell four times during the race, managed to scrounge up enough distance in between falls to come in fifth.

Of course, he was essentially given the fifth place spot, for Hooves o’ Fury and Initfortheoatbag were both disqualified:  Hooves o’ Fury for unnecessary roughness (he set fire to half of the infield), and Initfortheoatbag for hooved robbery (he kept eating the other horses blasted oats).

It was quite a race, to say the least.

The sheen of the lane.  The crack of the pins.  The stench of the shoes.

Yup, we went bowling, alright!  But it wasn’t just for kicks and giggles, but rather for charity, as we headed out to Galaxy Bowling to participate in the 2010 Bowl for Kids’ Sake event last Sunday – kicks and giggles were just icing on the cake!

In the two hours we were there, approximately ten teams (over 200 participants, total) came together to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters in a collective effort to raise money.  It was incredible to see so many people come out to support such a great cause.  Later in the day, another shift of bowlers came through to bring in even more pledges for the kids!

So what’s the bottom line?  We were so ecstatic to find that we raised $740 in pledges!

We’d like to thank all of those who partnered with us, and we look forward to participating next year!

In the wee hours of the morning (like 8:30, so not that “wee”), Surge employees met in secrecy to plan out their, well…plan.  Streamers, confetti, and cake…yup, a party was going down!  The occasion?  Katie’s one year anniversary here at Surge!  Whoo!

She entered her office, unprepared for the bludgeon of awesomeness she was about to encounter!  She was so moved that she cried…okay, not really, but she was really excited!  Then, as she blew out her candles, she was dominated by an onslaught of what some would call, “silly string;” we like to call it “the greatest invention ever made!”

We laughed, we ate cake, we silly stringed.  All in all, it was a great day!

Katie, thank you for your cheerful smile, your lighthearted attitude, and your incredible hard work.  We love and appreciate you, very much!

Now get back to work.

So we’ve got a whole lot really cool stuff going on here at Surge!  Redesigning our website, shooting and editing product/promo videos, etc., the list goes on and on!  Now we’ve decided to move into the wonderful world of Webinars–a seminar on the web…get it?  Webinar?  Clever, right?  Yeah we didn’t come up with the term.

Anyway, we’ve selected six possible topics to cover during our webinar series (listed below)!  We’d love–I mean really love it if you all would leave your thoughts about the topics!  Tell us which one(s) interest you, and feel free to tell us any topics of interest that we’ve missed!

1) Branding (How Businesses Want their Customers to Perceive their Brand)

2) Promotional Marketing (5 Reason Why Promotional Products Boast a Greater ROI than TV and Radio Advertising)

3) Apparel Fundraising (Strategies for Maximizing Profits With Screen Printed and Embroidered Apparel)

4) Promotional Product Fundraising (The Newest Items Sure To Raise Money for Your Organization)

5) Target Program Marketing (Why Forming a Campaign with a Promotional Marketing Expert Can Save You Money!)

6) Online Marketing (Building Your Website with a Purpose – So Google Will Promote You!)

We’re excited about this new project, as we think it will be a big help to all who participate!

Generally speaking, a baby and beer cheese have absolutely nothing in common.  But today, we’re not speaking in generalities.  Today, they do.

We’ve discovered a new love here at Surge:  beer cheese.  It’s delicious.  Matt and Devon have been collaborating and experimenting to find the perfect beer cheese flavor, and we’ve been loving every scrumptious attempt!  We’re a bit obsessed, so much so that we decided to write a blog post about  it!

So where does the baby come in?  Glad you asked.  Get ready for it…Matt and Courtney are pregnant!  Whoo!  They found out on the day of their 5th wedding anniversary!  Now ain’t that just romantic?  Abby is pretty darn excited to be a big sister, and both Matt and Courtney are crazy-excited to become parents squared!  Here’s an artist’ rendering of what the baby may look like:

So there you go!  We’ve got a whole lot of sweet stuff going on around here, and it looks like 2010 is going to be even better than ‘09!  We’re excited for what’s to come!

‘Twas the night before the 22nd, and all throughout Surge,

About 20 people were stirring, as laughter emerged,

From out of their mouths, loud and obnoxious,

As Devon laughed so hard, he nearly became unconscious.

The awards were pronounced, and all were filled with glee,

As each was awarded their very first Surgie.

Last night we hosted our very first Surgie awards ceremony, and, needless to say, it was a rockin’ evening!  We laughed, we cried, we gave awful acceptance speeches, all in good fun!  Many nominations were written for each employee, (such honorable mentions were the “Best Mennonite Ninja Assassin” Award and the “What’s That Bunny Thing With the Horns Called?” Award), but only one nomination for each employee rose to the top!  The winners of this years Surgie Awards are:

“Most Nonchalant Order-Sneaker” Award – Matt

“I Laughed So Hard I Pooped A Little Bit” Award – Devon

“Most Likely To Mess Up Right Before a Review” Award – Katie

“Biggest Risk to Worker’s Comp” Award – Bryan

“Most Likely to Scream When a Customer is Up Front” Award – Clark

“Queen of ‘Pop’” Award – Jennifer

“Best Adjectives” Award – Jered

“Most Likely to Break Out in Song” Award – Clay

“Most Likely to Count an Order Three Times” Award – Kristin

“Smiley-Pete” Award – Josh

Surgie

Ain’t it purty?

Each employee gave a heartfelt, tear-jerking acceptance speech after each recognition.  Actually…most just sat back down.  But, they were smiling!  And that’s what’s important!

So thank you all, for a great year!  We look forward to bringing in 2010!

Keep checking back for more updates on our crazy-cool lives here at Surge!

You guys are awesome!

Remember when you used to buy the lame-o, taste-like-cardboard cereal because it had the rad toy inside?  Sure you do.  There were many times when I got in trouble for dumping half of the box out so that I could retrieve what would become about 3 1/2 minutes of play time.  Then I would get bored and throw it away.

Well, we have a similar thing for our customers…only ours are so much cooler, words cannot even contain the awesomeness!

So, instead of attempting to explain how flippin’ sweet they are, I’m going to leave a large blank so that you can pause and ponder the epicness of our gift!

Excited?  You should be.  So what are these marvelous little knicknacks of joy?  Squeezies stress relievers!  They’re both fun, and practical (I now feel as though I’m writing an infommercial)!  We know how crazy life can be, and so we decided to help out our customers by giving them something to squeeze the living daylights out of!

Every single box of shirts receives a squeezie.  Note that we said that each box receives a squeezie, not just each order!  So, if you order 300 shirts you get around 4 or 5 squeezies, depending on the shirt sizes.  We can only fit so many shirts in each box.  And we know what you’re thinking.  No, we can’t pack your order with only 3 shirts per box to get maximum squeezage.

So, if you’re really stressed, you should buy more shirts, so that you can get more squeezies!  Unlike that nasty cardboard cereal with the junky prizes, our gifts are awesome, and our shirts don’t stink.  I still wouldn’t recommend eating them.

Our employees are awesome.  They’re hardworking, fun, folks who deserve a little recognition every once in a while–but not too often ;-) So, in order to do this we’ve decided to have our first annual Surgie Awards ceremony!

Here’s what ’s going to happen…

Nominations will be created during the next few weeks, with each of us writing down ridiculous/funny (or ridiculously funny) awards for one another.  Then, on December 21st we will have our mega-awesome awards ceremony, where the top nominations (chosen by Devon and Matt) will be awarded to each employee!  We’ve already begun nominating up a storm, so Matt and Devon have a lot of reading to do!

If you’ve seen the Dundie epidode of The Office, you know how this thing will play out , only our ceremony will be…Surgier (I think I just made up a new word).  We’re even going to have trophies, with the award title engraved on the front!  How sweet is that?!

Needless to say, we’re pretty excited about this, and we look forward to sharing the results with you!

Did we get your attention? Well we don’t lie! You read correctly; we’re having a contest of sorts where you can be entered to win a free T-Shirt!

Here’s how it works…

We have a condundrum. We are looking to create a new promo shirt for ourselves, and our graphic artist, Jered, has created six super-sweet designs, and we can’t narrow it down to which one we want! So, we place the decision in your hands! That’s right! You get to vote on which shirt design you like the best! On Friday, December 11th we will tally the votes and see which design wins it all. We will then print that design for our next promo shirt!

We will randomly select ten winners out of those who voted using extremely complicated methods of theoretical statistics. Basically, we’ll draw the names out of a hat.

Those ten winners will receive a free T-Shirt, courtesy of Surge Promotions!

You may be asking, “how in the world do I vote?” Well all you have to is leave a comment on this blog with your name (first and last) and the number of which T-Shirt design you want to win!  You must put your first and last name in order to be placed in the drawing (because we won’t know who you are)!

So get to votin’ friends!

Vote for your favorite!
